David Shannon
My name is David Shannon and I am an amateur photographer living in Competa.
I started photography when I was a teenager. I was lucky enough to go to a school that had a darkroom and a teacher who was passionate about photography and could pass on his knowledge of printing. It is always fascinating to see how the print develops before the eyes of the viewer in the tray. You have to remember that the darkroom technique was the original Photoshop!
I mainly shoot with black and white film and develop and print the photos myself. I mainly take portraits, but I also like to photograph old buildings.
At art college I was able to achieve the degree of Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society. The submitted works were taken with black and white film and printed in the darkroom, not with digital images.
My last exhibition took place in Vienna at the Lik Gallery. The Lik Academy has three photography schools in Austria and it was a privilege to be able to exhibit there. I have exhibited my work at the Competa Art Walk for two years and will be exhibiting at the Competa Photo Days for the third time this year.

Me llamo David Shannon y soy un fotógrafo aficionado que vive en Cómpeta.
Empecé con la fotografía cuando era adolescente. Tuve la suerte de ir a una escuela que tenía un cuarto oscuro y un profesor apasionado por la fotografía que podía transmitirme sus conocimientos sobre impresión. Siempre es fascinante ver cómo se desarrolla la impresión ante los ojos del espectador en la bandeja. Hay que recordar que la técnica del cuarto oscuro era el Photoshop original.
Principalmente disparo con película en blanco y negro y revelo e imprimo las fotos yo mismo. Principalmente hago retratos, pero también me gusta fotografiar edificios antiguos.
En la facultad de Bellas Artes obtuve el título de Licenciado de la Real Sociedad Fotográfica. Las obras presentadas fueron tomadas con película en blanco y negro e impresas en el cuarto oscuro, no con imágenes digitales.
Mi última exposición tuvo lugar en Viena, en la Galería Lik. La Academia Lik tiene tres escuelas de fotografía en Austria y fue un privilegio poder exponer allí. Llevo dos años exponiendo en el Competa Art Walk y este año participaré por tercera vez en los Competa Photo Days.
